Happy Birthday Mr. Tolkien!

Today would have been J.R.R. Tolkien’s 123nd Birthday. I wouldn’t be doing this if I hadn’t read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as a youngster. So celebrate by rereading The Hobbit, not by going to see the The Battle of the Five Armies. Honestly, you can probably read the whole thing in the same amount of time it will take to watch the final third of the Peter Jackson’s monstrosity.

Agreed 100%. The last piece of Peter Jackson’s bastardization of the Hobbit left a sour taste in my mouth. Best to celebrate the life of the great master by reading The Hobbit, The LOTR or The Silmarillion 🙂

Read the Tolkien books when I was young, and then I d joyed them. Being older and having read Authors such as Guy Gavriel Kay and Robbin Hobb and Tad Williams my taste has developed to expect more in my Fantasy. The movie version of Hobbit etc. Is only Hollywood special effects and story as filler. But Happy Birthday Mr. Tolkien, you wet our appetites for Fantasy.
