So I spoke with Brandon Sanderson last week and he assured me he is not, in fact, a robot.
He did share his reasoning behind the variety of projects he is working on, and told an interesting story about the genesis of the “Reckoners” series. Apparently the affable, easygoing author isn’t always so easygoing.
You can read the full interview at AZCentral.com.
He will be at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe on Wednesday, January 21 to sign copies of the latest “Reckoners” novel, the New York Times bestseller Firefight.
But even if you can’t make it to the signing, you still might be able to score an autographed copy if you are willing to do some hunting. He explains the “Steelhunt” in this outtake from the interview:
“I’ve found that my fans love it when I do “stealth signings”. I’m at an airport, or driving by a bookstore, I run in and sign all the copies they have, then send out a tweet letting my fans know where to look for the books. It turns into a scavenger hunt. They enjoy it so much that I’ve added prizes to the books. What I do is I have these die-cut plastic cards of the villains from Firefight, so you get a little action figure from the book. And some of them have a code on them, which you can enter on my website to open up a story I’m working on. I also give them out to people who ask questions at my signings. And whenever I’m on tour or passing through an airport, I try to make sure to leave some of these behind for the Steelhunt.”
