Valley fantasy fans are in for a treat as the Poisoned Pen brings Mary Robinette Kowal and Marie Brennan to town. The pair are popular purveyors of “Regency fantasy”, infusing magic into the manners and mores of Jane Austen. The authors will meet fans and sign copies of their latest books on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m.
The Hugo and Campbell Award-winning Kowal, a member of Brandon Sanderson’s popular “Writing Excuses” podcast, will be promoting her latest, the upcoming finale to her “Glamourist Histories” series, Of Noble Family. The novel finds the proper English couple Jane and Vincent traveling to the West Indies to put Vincent’s father’s estate in order. The glamour magic adepts must deal with the troubles of managing a plantation in disarray while Jane discovers she is with child. Of Noble Family hits stores on April 28.
Brennan will be signing copies of her newest novel, The Voyage of the Basilisk, the latest in her acclaimed “Natural History of Dragons” series. Originally working in archeology, anthropology and folklore, Brennan channeled her academic interests into the popular series. Accentuated by gorgeous illustrations from Todd Lockwood, the books chronicle the explorations and adventures of Isabella, the Lady Trent, the world’s foremost expert on dragon biology. The Voyage of the Basilisk hits stores on Tuesday.
