2015 World Fantasy Award Nominees announced

The controversial “Howard” statuette.

The 2015 World Fantasy Award nominees were announced today. Established 40 years ago, the juried award is presented at the annual World Fantasy Convention. This year the convention will be held in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Controversy has surrounded the award lately, because of the award statuette, the Howard. Based on a Gahan Wilson caricature of H.P. Lovecraft, the award has been criticized due to Lovecraft’s virulent racism. Officials have been considering changing the statuette, but no changes have been announced.

As always, my horse is City of Stairs, but with a Locus win for The Goblin Emperor and a Nebula for Annihilation, it has some tough competition. Congratulations to all the nominees.
