Happy Birthday Ray Bradbury!

ray-bradbury-264529The great Ray Bradbury would have been 95 today. I know many talk about Fahrenheit 451, or Dandelion Wine, but for me his greatest strength was always the short story.

Here are a few of my favorites, read by another giant of sci-fi, the late Leonard Nimoy.

“There Will Come Soft Rains” is a heartbreaking story about an automated house that survives a nuclear Armageddon. Published in The Martian Chronicles, I never felt it fit with the rest of the stories, and maybe that’s why it stood out.

“The Veldt” was probably my favorite short story from high school. Probably because the subject matter appealed to my rebellious teen side. From The Illustrated Man.

About Michael Senft

I am a freelance writer and critic from Phoenix Arizona. I spent 10 years covering music, the arts and pop culture for the “Arizona Republic” before life circumstances took me away from newspaper. But I never lost my joy at writing. Or reading.
